Breast, prostate, lung, and skin cancer are the most prevalent cancers in this area and therefore the top cancers treated by CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital. With over 50% of individuals who receive a cancer diagnosis traveling out of town for treatment, it is imperative that we elevate the Regional Cancer Center with more advanced technology for the provision of comprehensive cancer services to decrease outmigration as well as recruit and retain top oncologists to this area:
New Linear Accelerator (and upgrade to current equipment) – treats all parts of the body, delivering high-energy radiation to tumors while sparing the surrounding healthy tissue; this promotes faster reduction of tumors with less side effects and shorter recovery time.
CT Simulator – produces 2-D and 3-D images to provide the most beneficial treatment dosage and beam positions in order to save as much surrounding healthy tissue as possible.
Ease of Access – with this new technology and equipment, the Regional Cancer Center will be able to provide a more comprehensive, holistic approach to cancer care with all oncology services available in a convenient, centralized location on our campus.
Clinical Research – these improvements and upgrades will also give the Regional Cancer Center the opportunity to pursue an academic affiliation to support a more robust clinical research program, improved access to clinical trials and the newest evidence-based clinical treatments.
