Cardiology, Oncology and Neurosurgery Upgrades - $6 million

The Foundation’s latest Capital Campaign has funded significant upgrades in these three areas, including a 128-slice CT scanner – the new standard for cardiac imaging that provides a high-resolution full-body scan in just 10 seconds; a new linear accelerator – new oncology technology that delivers high-energy radiation to tumors while sparing surrounding healthy tissue; and a C-USA device – also known as a Cranial Ultrasonic Tissue Aspirator, which allows neurosurgeons to locate, incise and remove tumors on the lining of the brain.

Nationally Accredited Breast Health Center - $1.6 million

Thanks to a generous donation from James W. Gardiner’s estate, the Foundation recently funded the state-of-the-art James W. Gardiner Breast Center at CHRISTUS Ochsner Lake Area Hospital. The future nationally accredited center offers cancer detection services unmatched elsewhere in Southwest Louisiana, including newly developed tools for identifying both genetic and lifestyle risk, advanced imaging technology and personalized cancer risk management.

Cardiac Catheterization Lab Relocation - $317,261

Foundation funding allowed CHRISTUS Ochsner St. Patrick Hospital to centralize its cardiac service line for patients at the John & Sylvia Stelly Regional Heart Center.

Radiation Oncology Waiting Room - $50,000

This, in addition to other refurbished waiting rooms, is being funded by CHRISTUS Ochsner associates – a true reminder of the importance and impact of “Giving from Within.”

Regional Physical Rehabilitation Center at CHRISTUS Ochsner St. Patrick Hospital - $25,000

Thanks to funds raised from the annual Green Hat Run [link to Green Hat page] and Shamrocks & Champagne Brunch [link], we purchased advanced treatment equipment for the physical rehabilitation center. This includes a LiteGait® Partial Weight-Bearing Gait Therapy Device, which allows patients with ambulatory dysfunction to develop walking skills comfortably in an environment free from falls.

Mental Health Services/Therapeutic Activity Room - $10,000

Foundation funding made possible a therapeutic activity room for geriatric unit patients with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Planned Giving

Planned giving, sometimes referred to as gift planning, is a method of charitable support that allows donors to make larger gifts than they could make from their income. While some planned gifts provide a lifelong income to the donor and then leave remaining assets to the charity upon the donor’s passing, others use estate and tax planning techniques to provide for charity and other heirs in ways that maximize the gift and/or minimize its impact on the donor’s estate.
