CHRISTUS Ochsner Health Southwestern Louisiana Announces Cancer Risk Assessment Appointments

Lake Charles, Louisiana, May. 3, 2022– – CHRISTUS Ochsner Health Southwestern Louisiana is excited to announce that in-person and virtual appointments are available for cancer risk assessment at the Hereditary and High-Risk Cancer Genetic Clinic.
Services Offered:  Cancer Risk Assessment, Cancer Genetics 

  • Hereditary/familial cancer risk evaluation 
  • Pre-test counseling 
    • Very important, as this discussion includes possible results and their implications, financial implications of genetic testing, information on the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA), etc.
  • Coordination of sample collection 
  • Post-test counseling 
    • Always important, even for many patients with a negative genetic test result, as they may still be at increased risk for certain cancers based on other risk factors

  • Known gene mutation in patient/family 
  • Personal history of cancer with genetic counseling/testing performed several years ago 
    • Guidelines for testing change periodically 
    • Specimen analyses are updated/improved periodically 
  • Breast, ovarian, or pancreatic cancer in patient or family 
  • Prostate cancer in patient or family, especially if high-grade, intraductal, or metastatic 
  • Early-onset (< 50 years of age) colorectal or endometrial cancer in patient or family 
  • Multiple individuals in the family have been affected with cancer of any type 
  • Any individual in the family has had more than one cancer of any type 
  • Abnormal tumor genetic testing (MSI, IHC, STRATA, etc.) 
  • Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry

 Biography
Aimee Allen received her Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2011 and her Master of Nursing from McNeese State University in 2011. She is board-certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and is a certified Adult Oncology-Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP) through the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation. Most recently, she has completed the City of Hope Cancer Genetics Intensive Course and is a member of the Clinical Cancer Genomics Community of Practice. She currently specializes in Hematology and Oncology, as well as Cancer Genetics at Ochsner Christus Cancer Center and has been providing care for SWLA for over a decade.
