CHRISTUS Ochsner Southwestern Louisiana Foundation Announces Reimagined Dragon Boat Race For 2021

Sep 23, 2021

Lake Charles, Louisiana, September 21, 2021 – Out of an abundance of caution and with community safety in mind, the annual Dragon Boat Race scheduled for October 30, 2021 will transform into a new fundraising experience is available for all to enjoy. The 2021 Dragon Boat CMN Challenge is presented by CITGO, Cameron LNG, LyondellBasell, and Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino. It is expected to bring the same level of action, competition, and excitement that is expected each year in a Dragon Boat Race.

“We don’t have to paddle to make waves,” said Patricia Prudhomme, Executive Director of Development, CHRISTUS Ochsner Southwestern Louisiana Foundation. “The Dragon Boat CMN Challenge looks and feels different but the mission remains. We will continue to make a difference for the lives of children and families in our community.”

From jean days to spaghetti dinners, Participating teams will compete in individual challenges and fundraising events to support the work of CMN Hospitals here in Southwest Louisiana and have the opportunity to win top awards and bragging rights in these categories:

  • Dragon Boat CMN Challenge Top Fundraising Team
  • Dragon Boat CMN Challenge Top Individual Fundraiser
  • Dragon Boat CMN Challenge Best Team T-Shirt Design

The Dragon Boat CMN Challenge will also include these fun experiences for the community:

#PaddleForCMN – Hashtag and post a photo or video of your dragon boat creations on social media. It can be a pool, a box or even a bathtub! Get creative and win a prize.

#DragonFever – Head to one of five locations and look for a Dragon displayed to snap a winning selfie! Take a Dragon Fever Selfie, hashtag it on Facebook and enter to be shown in our event day video.

The annual Dragon Boat Race has not only become a family-friendly tradition and staple in the Lake Charles community but the funds raised through the event are critical in providing life-saving equipment for babies treated in Labor and Delivery and the NICU, along with Children’s Miracle Network initiatives in our hospitals and clinics. In the same spirit, we encourage everyone to support the Dragon Boat CMN Challenge and the many teams participating.

“We look forward to a time when we can gather again safely at the Lake Charles Seawall for the Dragon Boat Race we all love. Until then, we are getting creative and making new waves while hosting a memorable and rewarding experience for all who are involved,” said Prudhomme.
